Graduation 2010

We had an amazing and memorable graduation ceremony last night. We had 23 of our pupils moving on to a new chapter of life. The speeches were touching and from the heart. The atmosphere was warm and loving. It was truly special to be a part of such a wonderful event. Thank you to everyone who made it all possible.

Work continues

The work is well on target and according to plans. We should have one ceiling/floor replaced by the end of next week. Below are some pictures showing various stages of the process so far:

Renovations

We have started with the work to replace the floors/ceilings in the main school building. The above picture shows one of the classrooms on the second floor after the tiles and 20cm of sand have been removed, exposing the wood. To think that this is probably the first time this wood has seen the light of day since 1875!

Our primary hall has become a temporary storage room for bags of sand!

This was once our English room. This floor is also going to be replaced.

The exposed wood, ready for removing and will be replaced with a concrete floor.

Finally, we reach the end!

All I can is, whew! In the last few weeks we have had a flurry of activities and preparations for the end of the year that everything is a blur!

We ended the year on a good note with our secondary prize giving assembly on Friday, where we were able to celebrate the achievements of many of our pupils. There were prizes of academic excellence as well as progress awards and awards for social contribution to the school.

The staff celebrated a farewell meal together at school, complete with wine, ice-cream and champagne!

Through the week we had a trip to the water park, involving the whole school. The day went without any problems and everybody was brought back to school safe and sound!

We had our grade 6 and 7 pupils out on a surfing trip at one of the beaches here in Tel Aviv which was a great experience for all!

We also celebrated Grade 5 graduation, which took on a "Grease" theme this year.

We sent our primary to the Wingate Institute for sports day.

We have already begun with renovation work in the school. The floors/ceilings in four classrooms need to be replaced as well as other work and routine maintenance will be happening through the next two months.

To put the cherry on the top, our grade 12 graduation will be taking place on Tuesday 29 June. We are looking forward to that!

Exams and end of year

All of our high school pupils have been busy with exams for the past week. Our grade 10, 11 and 12 pupils are nearing the end of their exams, while our grade 6 to 9 pupils had their exams last week. We are now preparing for the end of the school year, with packing up classrooms in preparation for renovations through July and August, and getting ready for graduation ceremonies. Grade 5 have their graduation next Tuesday, 22nd June and grade 12 graduation is on Tuesday 29th June.

We have many trips and activities planned for the children, ranging from a surfing trip for grade 6 and 7, the annual visit to Neve Shalom for grade 8 and beach BBQ for grade 9 and 10. We also have our annual trip to a local water park for the whole school next Wednesday 23rd.

So we have a busy two weeks ahead of us, then it is off for a well-deserved summer holiday until 1st September.
